Total Wellness Plan (Preventive Medicine)

Total Wellness Plan is the science of health preventive care or preventive medicine. This simple and affordable plan makes your pet healthy and happy. This is much less stressful to your pet and less complicated than having to deal with through treatment. This plan principally involves holistic ways of health management include:

  • Annual Check-up: We recommend regular thorough physical examinations and run blood work in your pets from 5 years old every 6-12 months. This allows us to examine all body systems, and detect potential problems occurring with your pet. As you can imagine, the sooner a problem is detected, the likelihood of effective treatment it is greater.
  • Intestinal Parasite Screening and Prevention: A fecal Test is recommended in all healthy dogs and cats annually to screen for intestinal parasites.
  • Annual Vaccination: Vaccination is a key component of disease prevention in companion animal medicine. During your visit we will discuss your pets’ lifestyle and determine which infectious diseases he or she is at risk of being exposed to. We will then tailor a vaccination plan specifically for your pet. Our vaccination plan has the least risk of any adverse effect.
    • Dogs: We recommend Rabies, Canine Distemper, Canine Hepatitis, Canine Leptospirosis, Canine Parvovirus and Canine Parainfluenza virus and Bordetella Bronchiseptica.
    • Cats: We recommend Rabies, Feline Distemper and Feline Leukemia. For an outdoor cat, Feline Immunodeficiency Virus vaccine and Feline Infectious Peritonitis are highly recommended.
  • Heartworm Screening and Prevention: The mosquito plays an essential role in the heartworm life cycle by picking and transmitting disease from dog to dog. A heartworm test (blood test) is recommended annually in all healthy dogs to screen for heartworm disease in dogs. Prevention is by far the best option with monthly preventive pill and treatment – when needed – should be administered as early in the course of the disease as possible. Currently, there is an injectable preventive medication available which can last for one year with one injection.
  • External parasite (ticks and fleas) Prevention: Ticks and Fleas can carry serious diseases. Diseases carried by ticks including E.canis, Babesia, Hepatozoon in dogs and fleas carry Haemobartonella felis in cats. We recommend using monthly prevention against ticks and fleas in all dogs and cats.
  • Pet Weight Control Program: Pet weight gain is a slow process even owner never realizes until it causes some health problem like an often seen incidence of osteoarthritis. Without owner commitment weight loss will never ever be achievable. In the long run, overweight and obese pets are at risk of many health issues such as osteoarthritis, insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart and respiratory disease, cranial cruciate ligament injury, kidney disease, many forms of cancer, and decreased life expectancy (up to 2.5 years).

Annual Pet Wellness Exams

Prevention is the essential key for making your pet healthy and happy in the long term. This also has beneficial effect on reducing the cost of your pet’s lifetime health care. We recommend annual wellness visits for your pet on a regular basis. This allows us to examine all body system, do blood work and urinalysis, deworm and have fecal test. All these procedures will ensure that your pet health is maintained.
